INTRODUCTION TO ASSET MANAGEMENT

Municipalities own and operate a variety of infrastructure services including: water, sewer and stormwater services; transportation services (roads and bridges); and parks, community and recreational services.

To ensure citizens are best served by these infrastructure services, it is crucial that municipalities properly plan and budget for the corresponding life cycle costs of operations, maintenance, repair and eventual renewal.

The asset management process provides essential information to support municipal decision-makers in this regard - ensuring that infrastructure services are properly managed and sustainably financed for the benefit of citizens today and in future.
